Immediatly there were several taxidrivers offering their services to us, for prices that were way to high... There you stand, in a country you don't know, talked to in a language you don't know, doing things you don't know...
After a couple of minutes we agreed on a price with a taxi driver (which was probably way to high, but still half of what some other driver asked) and we were on our way to our host.
Traffic in Lima is kinda like traffic in Italy but then in a drunk state... and if you want jobsecurity, you can become a traffic agent, nearly on every roadcrossing there are trafficlights and trafficagents and cars and bikes and lots of noice... If you think Brussels has bad traffic, a culture shock awaits you when you arrive in Lima.
The two little girls were more then happy when they finally arrived at our guestfamily for the night. Soon we noticed that not speaking english is a habbit in Peru, but luckily people are really friendly and with some signlanguage and a couple of common words you can manage your way around.
We decided that it was better to overcome our fears immediatly and jump in so we took the local bus to the city centre, which was an adventure on its own. After walking around in the old city for a while (which was quite disapointing, some very nice buildings) we found a tourist infocenter and could figure out how to get out of the city in the morning.
Since we were both very tired and not really comfortable in the city itself we went back to our host fairly early and went to bed early as wel, dreaming of the coming weeks.
Take care and eat your veggies!!
